I observed a PK4SA classroom at the south location. The teacher and teacher assistant were great in fostering children's thinking skills. Whenever a student brought up an everyday experience from their life, the conversation wasn't stopped. The student was able to continue sharing and other conversations stemmed from there. She took the time to listen. It was good to see the student's vocabulary when they talked about something they experienced. The teacher was also successful in providing feedback. I heard her use, "I wonder..., " "I see you drawing...," "You seem excited to talk..." I loved the constant conversation. Students were encouraged to talk. There was very few redirections- when there were, it was to lower voices and refocus on her lesson.
ReplyDeleteI only see my post on this assignment so I will not be able to reply to two comments from other teachers.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! It's can be difficult to stop, listen, and engage when the students go off on a tangent" during a lesson. I'm sure the students felt valued and what they had to say was important.
DeleteI observed my a teammate's classroom. She had a great combination of the students moving, singing, and sitting. The students were engaged and knew the routine for math, centers, and phonics.
